LAYERS: All Trans Art Show
An exhibition exploring the complexities of Trans identity at Brooklyn Art Cave
Brooklyn, NY — September 5 -7, 2025 — The LAYERS exhibition is a group show featuring 21 Trans artists whose works are united by their personal exploration of what Trans identity means to them. The show opens on September 5th, 2025 at Brooklyn Art Cave, 897 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11206, with an opening reception from 6PM to 11PM.
The exhibition showcases sculptures, photography, textiles, performance, sound, painting, ceramics, and collage. LAYERS celebrates the richness of Trans lives — beyond visibility and headlines — and into the nuanced, intimate realities of who we are. In a world that flattens Trans stories into a single narrative, LAYERS is an invitation to look closer. To peel back assumptions. To sit with contradiction, multiplicity, and change.
This is a safe space for LGBTQIA+ artists and community members to gather and relax. Trans lives are under attack on a national and state level making it uncomfortable and often scary for Trans people to leave the house. Too often, Trans artists are expected to define themselves only through their Trans identity and many sub-communities go unseen. LAYERS honors these complexities.
Every art piece stands on its own, but together they create a fuller understanding of who we are.
“This exhibition explores the vibrant and dark experiences of the Trans community. Shedding light on the layers that my community holds beyond the stereotypes that are often our only label.” says Jealyn McFadden, Co-Curator.
The exhibition runs from September 5th-7th, 2025 and is open to the public.
